![]() Bastian decides to hide in the attic of his schoolhouse with the book as his only comfort. ![]() He also has no friends and gets picked on quite often because of his weight. Bastian considers his life to be fairly terrible since the loss of his mother and having an absentee father. After meeting the owner of the shop, he discovers an eye-catching book called The Neverending Story, which he then steals and runs away from home. ![]() In fact the plot of the movie only covers the first half of the book! A young boy by the name of Bastian Balthazar Bux finds sanctuary in an old bookstore in order to escape from some bullies. Plot wise, there are similarities but this novel proved to be a vastly different experience over the film. ![]() While researching the book and the subsequent film, I learned that not only was the author displeased by the movie version but he also took the filmmakers to court.
